He may still only be at the tender age of ten but Tom Canning, from Gurney Slade, Somerset, has already been tipped to become the next big name in Formula One.

‘Turbo’ Tom Canning, who is sponsored by, the internationally renowned workwear brand Dickies, recorded a string of strong results throughout the year in the Honda Cadet category, on his way to winning the most prestigious competition in the South West.

Tom, who was first introduced to the world of motorsport at the age of seven by his father Pete, is being compared to the likes of Jenson Button, who also started his glittering motorsport career by winning the cadet class at Clay Pigeon at the age of ten.

Dickies supply Tom and his team with high-quality workwear, embroidering all clothing with both the teams’ and the Dickies logo. Dickies have also helped to put together a wardrobe of clothes, kitting out the members of the team that work in the pit lane.

Pete Canning, who has followed Tom’s incredible journey so far, was full of praise for Dickies, saying: “Dickies have always given Tom great support and encouragement. It means a lot that a company involved in the top-level of motorsport still have the kindness and time to support a ten-year-old chasing his dreams.”

Tom certainly doesn’t lack ambition and is hopeful that winning the Clay Pigeon Championship is only the start of what could be a promising career in motorsport. Tom said: “I hope to stay in Super One until I am 14, and then have the chance to test for Junior Ginetta racing. After that, I want to move into formula GP2, which is one step down from F1, and then go on to F1 when I am a bit older. “

He has been given the opportunity to join the NextGen Race team to compete in the Super One British Championship and is testing in Spain with the team in February before a packed diary of race meetings during 2013 (including the six Super One rounds)

Both Tom and Dickies will be hoping that this year brings some great racing and results for the team.
