EALING TRAILFINDERS RUGBY CLUB SET PACE FOR PROMOTION
It may not have been one of the most convincing wins for Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club but they outlined their promotion credentials with a grinding victory over high-flying Esher.
The win now leaves the West London outfit unbeaten in the opening eight games of the National One season, with Richmond the only team to have prevented ETRFC from maximum points.
ETRFC finished second to Jersey last year and are already showing signs that they may go one better this time round. ETRFC have not been enjoying large point margin victories recently but it’s a long, hard season and these kind-of victories are expected. A last minute penalty at Blackheath a fortnight ago followed by a gritty 26-21 win at home to Esher at the weekend outlined the clubs’ intentions for promotion.
Mike Cudmore, director and general manager at the club said: “It’s still early days. The players know there is a long way to go and some of the teams around us are looking stronger as the season progresses. We have a strong platform to work from but we’ll just be taking each game as it comes.”
ETRFC travel to North Yorkshire next weekend to face Wharfedale before hosting Old Albanians in another local derby in two weeks time.
There is a definite winning mentality around the club at the moment, with fans confident of nothing more than a victory every weekend. The players at the club are hungry for success and look a cut above many of their opponents in terms of strength and especially this season, fitness.
Eight games into the new campaign and Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club have certainly set the pace and standard of rugby that other clubs will need to better if they are to knock the green shirts of their perch and prevent them from promotion to the Championship.
