Lee Harvey, 24, a stage manager from Westcliff-on-sea, Essex, who was a finalist in the 2012 UK Worker of the Year competition, has urged everyone to enter the national competition.
Lee, who was recognised for his backstage work during theatre productions, made it into the final six from thousands of entries across the country. Lee was also heavily involved backstage during the running of West End musical - Wicked.
Lee said: “It was a privilege to make it so far it the competition. Even though I didn’t win the competition, I’d say that entering was the best thing I’ve ever done. I can’t wait to be a part of the 2013 competition and I’ll be encouraging everyone to enter.”
UK Worker of the Year 2013 launched on 15thApril to find Britain’s top workers and ultimately the UK Worker of the Year.
UK Worker of the Year 2013 is sponsored by Dickies, in association with Suzuki. This year’s winner will have the luxury of being able to take home a Suzuki Swift car or if they prefer, a Suzuki bike.
Wayne Dye, general manager at Suzuki GB PLC commented: “We are very proud to be working in association with the coveted WOTY campaign and will be supporting the efforts of Dickies and associated partner to find the 2013 winner who will become the proud new owner of a fabulous Suzuki Swift or GSR750 from our current range.”
This will mark the fourth year of the competition presented by the legendary workwear company, which seeks to recognise and reward excellence in the British workforce.
Quentin Willson, TV presenter and consumer and motoring champion said: “Worker of the Year is now a major UK workplace award and I'm really proud to have been a supporter and judge from the very beginning. It's great that past winners tell us the competition changes lives.”
Maurice Morton, sales & marketing director at Dickies added: “Given the on-going uncertainty that the country faces economically, a feel-good initiative of this type is more important than ever, to remind our nation’s work force that they have much to be proud of and look forward to.”
Joint second place went to Somerset pest controller, Tom Edwards and Suffolk painter & decorator Anna Bettis who walked away with thousands of pounds of holiday vouchers.
UK Worker of the Year is a free to enter competition and is open to anyone who works in the UK aged 17 or over. The winner of UK Worker of the Year 2013 will be announced at the Gala event, which will be held at the Madejski Stadium in Reading on 18thOctober 2013.
