Worker of the Month prize goes to Manchester-based Commercial Vehicle Specialist

With the grand finale of Dickies' innovative UK Worker of the Year program rapidly approaching – which will herald the announcement of the ultimate prize winner – the company is delighted, in the meanwhile, to announce that the final People’s Choice monthly award has been won by CV specialist, Geoff Brady. Throughout September people cast their votes for the monthly prize winner, from amongst those nominated for the overall UK Worker of the Year competition. Once again, hundreds of votes were received and it was 64 year old Geoff Brady from Manchester, who topped the pile. Geoff has his own business – situated close to Manchester United’s ground in Trafford Park, South Manchester - which provides Firestone air suspension parts for Commercial Vehicles. “I heard about Dickies UK Worker of the Year scheme on TalkSport Radio and decided it would be fun to enter,” enthused Brady. “I service about three hundred customers a month and I put a notice up on my counter which told people about the competition. My customers have talked about little else for the last couple of months - and it’s also been good for Dickies, as now everyone knows the brand, and at least one of my customers has kitted out all of his staff in Dickies clothing.” Geoff recently went to the Dickies store in Salford Quays to pick up his prize and came away with a couple of pairs of boots, some waterproofs – which he chose so as to stay dry while watching his Grandson play local league football – and a selection of shirts. Geoff has been in the automotive industry all of his working life and previously had manufactured marker boards for Commercial Vehicle trailers, until being made redundant about five years ago. This led to his decision to start his own business, which has proved to be a good move - even in these difficult economic times. “With people buying fewer new vehicles, they obviously need the products I supply to help keep their current ones going – or get them back on the road if they break down,” he explains. “I service up to thirty customers a day and hopefully the fact that so many of them voted for me is a good reflection on my work.” With the hundreds of entries for UK Worker of the Year 2010 now whittled down to a final nine - who recently assembled at the world famous Pinewood Studios to meet the Judges - the first UK Worker of the Year will be crowned at the upcoming Dickies’ gala awards night, at Pinewood, on October 29th.
