Business And Pleasure In Venice

GROUPAUTO UK & Ireland Ltd (GROUPAUTO), the UK’s largest trading group recently held its sixth Spring/Summer Event for members and suppliers in the beautiful city of Venice in the luxury of the five-star Excelsior Hotel on the Venice Lido.

The event followed its familiar and successful formula of combining business in the form of a conference and supplier meetings, and pleasure with fine food, great entertainment, and the opportunity to see the sights in one of the world’s most amazing cities.

In total 270 delegates attended the event and one of the significant issues tackled during the conference sessions was the perennial matter of motorist’s attitudes towards the independent repair sector and the key factors that determine their decision to which workshop they will use.

Conference delegates heard that despite the market’s constant obsession with the cost of components and the labour rate that a typical independent workshop can ‘afford’ to charge, the findings of research from among motorists themselves indicated that regardless of the age, sex and socio-economic group of the vehicle’s owner and irrespective of the age of the vehicle, the cost of the repair is not one of the main factors in choosing the repairer.

Likewise, research from the independent workshop reflects the motorist’s attitude and reveals that it’s the quality of the product and the speed of its delivery that are the main criteria for their buying decisions, not the cost. Naturally, these findings allowed attendees to address the question as to why the market is being driven down on price and why and who is responsible.

Commenting on the event, MD Jim Mazza said: “Although an air of doom and gloom hangs over the UK economy I am pleased with our decision to push the boat, or in this case, the gondola out, and spend time in a beautiful setting and a relaxed atmosphere.

“We were however able to address some big issues and think meaningfully about how we can develop our businesses in light of the research and with the belief that we are in business to provide a good quality service and to make a profit. These two factors are not, nor should they be, incompatible,” he concluded.
