Kate Anthony, star of Coronation Street switches on the Christmas Lights at Margate and Westgate-on-Sea

Coronation Street star, Kate Anthony, who plays the well-known Corrie character Aunty Pam, will be switching on the Christmas lights in Margate on Friday 3rd December and then in Westgate-on-Sea the following day on 4th December. Kate said, I’m honoured to be asked to officiate such traditional and important events, especially as it isn’t something I’ve ever done before.” Kate will be joined on the Friday by the Mayor, Cllr Michael Tomlinson and Mayoress, Cllr Shirley Tomlinson, of Margate. Michael, affectionately known as Mick Tee and regarded by many as Mr Margate, has become the town's mayor for a second spell and if anyone has a perspective on the future of Margate - it’s Mick. On the 4th December Kate will attend the Westgate-on-Sea street parade, which celebrates the bringing in of Father Christmas and she will also switch the lights on before walk around the stalls and meeting the local community. Kate is in Margate the Christmas to head the cast of Cinderella at the Winter Gardens. Kate is delighted to be performing back on the stage again. “I’m really looking forward to being Baroness Hardup and back in Kent, where my professional stage career actually began. “It will be strange taking a short break from Coronation Street, but it’s only for two months. I love Aunty Pam and there is so much more for her to do and I can’t wait to get back’, but even Aunty Pam needs her Christmas break! “Coming back to Panto after such a long gap is so exciting and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve worked with such a varied cast in Panto over the years, from Roland Rat to the fabulous Barbara Windsor and one year actually shared the stage with my actor/brother Adam Lee”, Kate added. The show runs from December 19th to 30th with seats at £14 (concessions £12). There will also be a special schools’ performance on December 16th. It’s great value entertainment for all the family this Christmas and there will be two performances every day at 2.30pm and 7.00pm.
