Experienced Product Analyst For The Team

The growing team of professionals at First Line has been strengthened further with the addition of Nick Smith who has joined as the new product manager for the Borg & Beck clutch programme.

Nick is from true aftermarket stock as his father was also a member of the trade and who after a career as a mechanical engineer became a branch manager for an independent factor, Advance Motor Supplies.

Nick followed in his father’s footsteps into the factoring side of the business and became an assistant branch manager with the Advance Motor Supplies before the company sold out to the growing Partco group, first under GKN and then Unipart following the change of ownership. It was during this time that Nick decided to cross the supply chain and join Quinton Hazell for what turned out to be a 20 year career.

Although he began in the electrical products part of QH, over the intervening years he has had experience across all the product groups and was latterly the product analyst for steering components.

At Borg & Beck Nick will be able to bring that wealth of aftermarket product knowledge to bear on one of the UK’s most prominent clutch brands. “My role is to look after all the day-to-day management of the range, to crunch the data and find the opportunities that will take the brand to the next level,” said Nick.

“There is so much history and respect for the brand and since its reintroduction in 2006, it has grown into a major player and I’m glad to be part of the team tasked with expanding the range further.”

General manager Malcolm White added: “Nick brings some core strengths to the team, which will certainly help us to continue to improve the programme. We already have a market leading position in terms of the depth of our range of flywheel replacement kits and CSC kits and Nick will ensure we maintain and develop this market leading position.”
