X-treme Power sets an Auto Express Product Awards record as Philips dominates Lighting Category and urges trade to seize the profit opportunity on offer. Guildford, United Kingdom - Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) (“Philips”) May 2010 Philips Automotive Lighting is celebrating victory in the prestigious Auto Express Product Awards once again in 2010. Philips’ X-treme Power took the award for the best car headlight bulb this year, making it an incredible four Auto Express awards in a row for the product. This is certainly the first time that same bulb has won four Auto Express Product Awards and may well be a record for any product over the history of Auto Express’ product honours. This comes hard on the heels of the Motorcycle version of X-treme Power - XP Moto - taking victory in Ride magazine’s recent headlamp bulb mega-test. “A fourth Auto Express Product Award for the same product is an awesome feat and once again confirms our contention that X-treme Power is quite simply the best halogen replacement headlight bulb on the market” comments a delighted Ed Savage, UK Manager of Automotive Lighting for Philips. The award, however, doesn’t tell the full story, as Philips’ bulbs actually won every category they were entered for in Auto Express’ bulb test. The trials, which are undoubtedly the most comprehensive and credible tests of car headlamps conducted by any UK publication, divide headlamp bulbs into five categories. Auto Express takes bulbs from all of the readily available suppliers of retail bulbs and they are given their rank based on performance and cost so as to determine what represents the most cost-effective headlamp in each category. Bulbs are rated in stars from one to five – with five being the highest possible score. The Philips bulbs, not only won but were also adjudged the only five star bulbs in each of their respective categories. In the Plus 30 Bulbs category (ie Bulbs that give 30% more light than an industry Standard Bulb) The Philips Premium took the honours; The Philips Vision Plus won Best Buy in the Plus 50 category for bulbs producing 50% more light than standard; Philips’ superb, Multi Award-winning X-treme Power reigned supreme against other bulbs that deliver more than 50% greater light than the standard bulb – the 50 + category – and in the category for Blue “Xenon-Effect” bulbs the Philips BlueVision proved to be the class of the field. The Philips product performed best in every case and X-treme Power was ultimately given the accolade of Auto Express Automotive Lighting Product of the Year for 2010 It has been almost a year since Philips strengthened its offer in the UK automotive lighting aftermarket and the company has made real progress as Ed Savage explains. “Philips has been the world market leader in automotive lighting for decades – as borne out by the fact that one in three new cars is fitted with Philips Bulbs as standard. The UK aftermarket has been one of the very few areas that hasn’t yet reflected Philips market-leading position. We are now however, starting to see the results of the expansion of our distribution base in the UK and a more aggressive pricing and marketing policy over the last year. “Philips’ aim is to educate trade and consumer alike that automotive lighting is probably the cheapest proactive safety measure it is possible to put onto a car, so there is no excuse for fitting a poor quality headlamp nowadays. They are better for the motorist and offer the trade more profit margin for no additional work. So the message is that if you’re not stocking or fitting the best bulbs on the market you should be!” - ENDS - More information about Philips Automotive Lighting can be found at: http://www.lighting.philips.com/in_en/consumer/carlighting If you require higher resolution versions of these photos or any further information about this release or Philips Automotive lighting products in general, please contact Simon Maurice on 01753 650004 or email simon@chicanemarketing.co.uk About Royal Philips Electronics Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) is a global leader in healthcare, lighting and consumer lifestyle, delivering people-centric, innovative products, services and solutions through the brand promise of “sense and simplicity”.
