The aftermarket industry is at a fork in the road.
Dear editor, Please find attached a PowerPoint presentation created by Mike Owen, head of the IAAF-G, which was specifically prepared for the media. It demonstrates the direction and thought process of the IAAF-G and why a garage section has been created within the IAAF structure. We hope this helps you understand everything you need to know about the IAAF-G and if you need to know anything else or would like a 1-on-1 with Mike, we would be delighted to arrange this for you. Also attached is a press release which we hope will be of interest to your readers along with a couple of mug shots of Mike Owen. If you need anything anything else, then please contact me. Kindest regards, Gary
Press release – 22/09/2010 An Industry at a Fork in the Road So diverse are the interests of the aftermarket, that not one organisation can represent their requirements anymore. This fact was amply displayed by the recent ‘scrappage scheme’, a programme cloned from similar European initiatives and delivered here in UK to the detriment of the independent aftermarket exceeding £350 million according to the IAAF-G Garage section. Mike Owen, head figure of the IAAF-G section said, “The trouble with figures as big as these is that they lose their significance, in simple terms every one of the 25,000 businesses in the UK has lost on average 14 cars together with their customers. In addition 100,000 UK taxpayers working within the Independent sector have lost income and job security whilst the true beneficiaries of the ‘scrappage scheme’ are predominantly based around the Pacific rim.” The IAAF understands that representing the interests of the franchised sector to Government is the function of their association yet the counter argument to represent the independent sector was never heard by the organisations that claim to represent both parties. The IAAF-G is now set up to represent the interests of the independent garages within the UK and you may rest assured that any future representations as heavily bias towards the franchised sector will not go unchallenged. The IAAF-G is writing to the departments of the Government establishing itself as the true voice of the independent sector and ensuring that its blossoming membership is properly represented.
