UK Worker of the Year, Dickies’ initiative to recognise and reward excellence in the UK’s workforce is well underway for 2012 – with the entry period having now reached the halfway stage.

The world-renowned workwear brand – celebrating its 90thbirthday in 2012 – is joined in this year’s nationwide search to find the worker who exemplifies everything that embodies “doing a great job” by car manufacturer SEAT, which is providing the prize for the winner of the title.

This is the third year that Dickies has staged the competition and all the signs point to it being by far the biggest one yet. “There has already been a notable increase in interest both in terms of general interest and also in terms of entries – which is really gratifying,” explains Dickies’ Maurice Morton. “We are only about half way though the entry period, but already we have almost had as many entries as we had in the whole of 2010, so the word really seems to be spreading.”

The year’s prize is certainly the most attractive yet: SEAT’s flagship saloon model, the luxurious new 143PS Exeo S Ecomotive TDI, which has an on the road retail price of £20,800 and, as well as being brilliantly equipped, boasts a CO2 rating of just 117g/km.

Fire protection officer from Kent, John Stone won the title in 2010 and Charity Support Worker from Derbyshire, Anna Simpson was last year’s UK Worker of the Year. As in previous years, the spectrum of different occupations is incredibly widespread and entries, once again, have been received from all corners of the British Isles.

The latter stages of the 2012 competition certainly promise a real flurry of activity, as the marketing effort around UK Worker of the Year Intensifies to ensure the scheme draws the maximum possible interest.

There will be a raft of competitions on both the UK Worker of the Year Facebook and Twitter sites as well as on SEAT’s Facebook site. These should include tickets for British Touring Car Championship rounds, VIP Hospitality at British Superbike Championship rounds, iPads, and tickets for Football and Rugby Matches. The first competition will see the lucky winners experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime tandem parachute jump with the Army’s legendary Red Devils parachute team.

Both Dickies and SEAT will be using events that they are attending and exhibiting at over the course of the Summer to highlight UK Worker of the Year – some with an example of the main prize SEAT Exeo on display.

In addition, Dickies will be continuing with its trade and consumer advertising and PR campaigns – all of which feature UK Worker of the Year and which will push the competition to businesses – encouraging them to enter their staff – and to end-users, to promote nominations and entries. SEAT will also be promoting the competition on its main website and reporting on the latest developments.

UK Worker of the Year is a completely free to enter competition, with entry only taking only a few minutes to complete. UK Worker of the Year is open to anyone who works in the UK and who was aged 17 or over at the start of the competition in April.

Entries and nominations will be accepted up to August 31st, 2012.

After the entries have closed, six finalists will be selected who will be invited to meet the judges at the famous Pinewood Film Studios. Automotive Journalist and TV Presenter, Quentin Willson returns for a third year as Chairman of the Judges. The finalists and their partners will then be Dickies’ Guests at the Gala Awards finale on November 2nd at Marlow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.
