The Welsh Repair Group (WRG) made up of three bodyshops in Wales that all have the Kitemark have recently celebrated their first birthday and toasted to the success and future of the group. The Welsh Repair Group was formed in October 2009 as a direct result of the need for independent accident repair companies in Wales to become more competitive in today’s market place. As an independent it is difficult to achieve a competitive edge because of the continued demand for higher discounts from work providers such as insurance and fleet management companies, which can only be provided if similar discounts can be negotiated from parts and materials suppliers. The WRG members are: Autocraft ARC of Aberystwyth, Jones & Bramley of Newport and RGM vehicle body repairs of Swansea and have over 113 years combined experience of the industry. Tony Johnstone, marketing manager at RGM commented: “By combining our buying power we automatically qualify for higher discounts from our suppliers and are therefore able to pass this on to our customers in order to meet their demands. “The importance of the Kitemark to the WRG is paramount. This standard is recognised by all insurance companies and many fleet companies to be the ‘yardstick’ that accurately measures and proves the professional capability of the accident repair industry. Without it, it is difficult to prove that your training, methods of repair and tools of the trade are fit for the purpose of repairing modern accident damaged vehicles, so that they are properly restored to original pre accident status and as a consequence able to withstand any further accident damage that might otherwise seriously injure or cause fatalities to the occupants.” Additional advantages are also available in that most work providers are now seeking a reduction in the number of bodyshops that they have to deal with, in order to reduce their own overhead, and the formation of the WRG enables them to have a single point of contact, safe in the knowledge that the same high standard of repair and customer services will be provided regardless of location for any part of the country. Joining the WRG is easy, the only criteria is that the repairer has been accredited with the Kitemark for Vehicle Body Repair.
