Children's Climate Prize 2016 jury appointed
The jury for this year’s Children’s Climate Prize has been appointed. We are delighted to announce that chairman of the jury is Johan Kuylenstierna, director of the Stockholm Environment Institute and named Sweden’s most powerful environmentalist. Alongside him we have recognised eminent professionals such as business economist and author Kjell A Nordström, Sandra Jönsson from WWF Panda Planet, IF’s communications director Katarina Mohlin and Soledad Piñero Misa, social entrepreneur and founder of Retoy.
Also participating in the jury are children from France, USA and New Zealand, who participated in the Children's Climate Conference in 2015, alongside students from Blombacka School, class 5, in Södertälje, Sweden. Together they will seek out the winner of this year’s Children's Climate Prize.
The winner of the Children's Climate Prize 2016 will be revealed one week before the award ceremony on 24th November, when chairman of the jury, Johan Kuylenstierna, emerges from his office at the Stockholm Environment Institute to announce the winner. The jury has now been appointed and we are both proud and delighted with their collected commitment and skills. As nominations are submitted, the jury will be informed and, at the end of October, they will sit down together to decide upon and nominate the winner of the Children’s Climate Prize 2016.
- When dealing with environmental and climate research, it is important to always consider different perspectives. It is important to pay attention to children's and young people's efforts in environmental issues. That’s why I am looking forward to the task of leading the work of the jury in the hunt for the next big climate hero, says Johan Kuylenstierna, chairman of Children's Climate Prize jury 2016.
The Children's Climate Prize 2016 gives children the opportunity to aim for the stars and puts focus on one of today's most important issues. We will search through the projects and initiatives of children and young people to find the next generation of climate heroes. The very first ceremony of the newly instituted environmental prize will be held Thursday, 24th November. And, just like the Nobel Prize, everything takes place during a ceremony with accompanying banquet.
The prize is international and anyone can nominate or be nominated. The winner will receive a medal, a diploma and prize money of 50,000 Swedish kronor. The prize is awarded to a child or a group of children, ages 10-16, who in an exceptional manner has made an extraordinary contribution to the climate and environment.
On 22nd August submissions for nominees open. The nomination process takes place between 22ndAugust to 22nd October.More information regarding this will be released next week.
