Christian Children’s Fund of Canada introduces its inaugural Trade Me campaign — putting 16 executives up for auction to fund job-skills training for youth in developing countries

As the season of giving approaches, 16 of Canada’s business stars are auctioning off one hour of their time to the highest bidder to benefit youth in developing countries supported by Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC).

Michael Bonacini, of Oliver & Bonacini (O&B) Restaurants and CTV’s MasterChef Canada, will step out from behind the stove to share his culinary expertise; his business partner, Peter Oliver, will offer insights into service excellence.

“Success in business is about passion, perseverance and hard work. I’m happy to share what I’ve learned in building O&B Restaurants,” says Oliver.

Participants represent various sectors such as hospitality, banking, marketing, branding and human resources, among others. Others up for auction include Kim Parlee of TD Wealth Management and host of Business News Network's MoneyTalk; Ian Gordon of Loblaw Brands Limited; and Ian French of leading direct-TV agency, Northern Lights Direct — there’s someone for everyone.

“We’re excited so many of Canada’s great business minds have come together for the children and communities CCFC supports,” says Terrance Slobodian, Vice President, Fund Development and Communications, CCFC.

Education is integral to escaping poverty, and that’s what Trade Me bids will fund. “The proceeds from the campaign will go towards leadership and vocational training for vulnerable youth in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Nicaragua and Paraguay — the countries where we operate,” says Slobodian.

It’s a cause many can get behind. “I strongly support giving youth in developing countries an opportunity to grow their business dreams through training,” says Oliver.

Starting Nov. 9, and every week thereafter until Dec. 7, new Trade Me participants will become available for auction at trademeauction.ca. Visit the site now to see the complete list of participants and the auction schedule. All bids close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
