The Center of Scientology of Israel held an event on United Nations Universal Children’s Day where it released a new brochure, Scientology: How We Help, The Truth About Drug—Creating a Drug-Free World. City and national officials, community leaders and youth activists participated.
The brochure was published to meet requests for more information about the Truth About Drugs, a program that draws on more than two decades of experience in the field of drug prevention. The Center makes the program available to the community at large to tackle serious trends in drug abuse among Israeli youth.
According to the Israel Anti-Drug Authority, Israel has seen a 20 percent increase in drug-related crime involving minors alongside increased school violence. An estimated 11 percent of youth age 12-18 consume drugs.
Effective drug education and community involvement in prevention programs are essential in tackling this issue. Ayelet Mallis, coordinator of the Center’s drug prevention initiative, acknowledged the City of Tamra, a predominantly Arab community in the North of Israel, as an example of one community’s commitment to its youth. The city has embraced the Truth About Drugs program, making it available to all students in the city’s schools.
The Center of Scientology of Israel opened its doors August 21 on Jerusalem Boulevard in Tel Aviv’s ancient port city of Jaffa. Located in the historic Alhambra Theater, it is configured to provide a hub for the entire community where members of all faiths can meet and unite on humanitarian initiatives.

About How We Help—the Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug-Free World
Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The planet has hit a barrier which prevents any widespread social progress—drugs and other biochemical substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.”
The Church of Scientology supports the Truth About Drugs, one of the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaigns. It has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the truth about drugs—factual information on what drugs are and what they do—usage rates drop commensurately.
