On Sunday, August 25, more than a thousand Scientologists and guests gathered for the grand opening of the new Church of Scientology Mission of Los Feliz. The dedication ceremony marked the completion of its newly constructed premises in the heart of Los Feliz Village.

With a growing congregation, the Mission outgrew its former building and began the search for a new home. They found an ideal location at the corner of Hillhurst Avenue and Avocado Street, where they built their new 8,000-square-foot Mission from the ground up. Its Spanish Colonial Revival design is in keeping with the prevalent architectural style in Los Feliz and neighboring Hollywood Hills. The building represents a fourfold expansion and now stands ready to accommodate the Mission’s parishioners and introduce those new to Dianetics and Scientology.

Film and television actor Patrick Renna spearheaded the establishment of the Mission’s new home. At Sunday evening’s dedication ceremony he said: “We have been given a gift of technology from L. Ron Hubbard that allows individuals to discover practical solutions to the multitude of real life problems they face daily—from difficulty with jobs, family and relationships, to the harmful effects of drugs and other pitfalls of life. And that is precisely what this Mission is here for—to help the individual change conditions and live a better life.”

Executive Director of the Mission of Los Feliz, Jasmin Renna, spoke of her vision for the new premises: “To our friends and neighbors here in Los Feliz, our doors are open and we extend a very warm welcome to come in and discover Scientology. To our parishioners, we look forward to continuing to service you all in our new home. And to our Scientology friends who want to start Missions in cities around the globe, we invite you to visit us, to work alongside us and to take that experience back home—so together we can make a difference in many more communities.”

Visitors to the Los Feliz Mission may view the public information exhibit right off reception, which includes multimedia presentations of the basic beliefs and practices of Dianetics and Scientology as well as the life and legacy of the religion’s Founder, L. Ron Hubbard. In all, the exhibit offers more than 500 informational and documentary films.

As a Church of Scientology Mission, the new facility is set up to provide beginning Scientology services. They include the popular Life Improvement Courses through which anyone may find workable solutions to common challenges of everyday life—such as how to improve a marriage, successfully raise children, increase personal motivation, set and achieve goals, and many others.

The new Mission also offers daily seminars on a wide range of topics, including personal efficiency. The Hubbard Dianetics Seminar, held every weekend, is based on L. Ron Hubbard’s watershed work Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, the best-selling book that reveals the source of one’s nightmares, unreasonable fears and irrational behavior—the reactive mind—and how to conquer it.

Additionally, the Mission offers spiritual counseling, known as auditing (from Latin audire, to listen), and the Purification Program, developed by L. Ron Hubbard to free individuals from the mental and spiritual damage caused by drugs and toxins.
