The Church of Scientology of Pretoria was invited to attend the Twshane City Hall Substance Abuse Summit November 14, which drew together civic and community leaders concerned with this important issue.
September’s South African Police Service Crime Statistics Overview for 2012/2013 report found drug-related crime has increased in the country by 13.5 percent this year. This statistic makes it clear that concerted grassroots drug prevention efforts are necessary.
To help concerned government and NGO representatives participating in the substance abuse summit reach out to youth with factual information about drugs, the Church of Scientology of Pretoria set up a booth in the lobby of Twshane City Hall, making available The Truth About Drugs educational materials for all participants to use in their own drug education and prevention activities.
Twshane is a metropolitan municipality incorporated in December 2000 that comprises Pretoria, Centurion, Akasia, Soshanguve, Mabopane, Atterdgieville, Ga-Rankuwa, Winterveld, Hammanskraal, Temba, Pienaarsrivier, Crocodile River and Mamelodi. It is the second largest municipality in Gauteng Province and the sixth largest metropolitan area of South Africa.
Scientologists on five continents work in their communities throughout the year to empower others with the truth about drugs. The Church and its members are dedicated to eradicating drug abuse through education.
The Church of Scientology supports The Truth About Drugs initiative, one of the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaigns.
It has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the truth about drugs—factual information on what drugs are and what they do—usage rates drop commensurately.
The Church of Scientology has published a brochure, Scientology: How We Help—The Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug-Free World, to meet requests for more information about the drug education and prevention initiative it supports. To learn more or read the brochure, visit the Scientology website.
Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The planet has hit a barrier which prevents any widespread social progress—drugs and other biochemical substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.”
