National Scientology Organization of Mexico joins with other members of Churches for Peace for a 10-day celebration of peace.

At the finale of “10 Days for Peace and Human Rights,” September 21, 2013, Scientology volunteers helped children leave their own personal message of peace on a large display.

International Peace Day 2013 saw the culmination of “10 Days of Peace and Human Rights”—a series of events organized by Churches for Peace, an association of religions working together for justice and dignity in Mexico.

The 10 Days of Peace was launched September 12 with a press conference and followed with daily activities to promote religions working together.

The finale was a prayer day on International Peace Day at Plaza de Santo Domingo with 80 members of diverse religions presenting aspects of their beliefs and culture. These included traditional Mexican food, Catholic songs, Prayers for Peace from the ALHKMA Muslim community of México and the Shalom community of the Baptist Church, songs from the International Society of Krishna Consciousness, and a reading of the Creed of the Church of Scientology.

Scientology volunteers were on hand to help children leave their own personal message of peace on a large display and invite those attending to sign a petition for universal human rights education.

As part of the 10 days of events, the National Scientology Organization of Mexico hosted a conference September 17, “The Importance of Human Rights in the Peace-Building Process” presented by Raúl Arias, Executive Director of Youth for Human Rights Mexico.

The 10 Days of Peace and Human Rights also included the following presentations:

  •     Transformation Theology at the Lutheran Center by the Mexican Association for Rural and Urban Transformation (AMEXTRA)
  •     Spirituality in Resistance at the Spanish Cultural Center in the Republic of Guatemala
  •     The Four Noble Truths of Suffering and Happiness by Geshe Lobsand Khedup at the Ecumenical Studies Center
  •     Violence in Mexico by Friar Julian Cruzalta at the Theological Community of Mexico
  •     A Conversation with Lluis Dutch, Catalan theologian and anthropologist at the Churches for Peace Ecumenical Studies Center

Churches for Peace is an association of many diverse religions working together to bring peace to Mexico by lowering violence and criminality through infusing spirituality into the community.

Scientologists on five continents engage in collaborative efforts with government agencies and nongovernmental organizations to bring about broad-scale awareness and implementation of the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the world’s premier human rights document.

The Church of Scientology has published a brochure, Scientology: How We Help—United for Human Rights, Making Human Rights a Global Reality, to meet requests for more information about the human rights education and awareness initiative the Church supports. Children were invited to leave their own personal message of peace on a large display provided by the Church of Scientology at the finale of “10 Days for Peace and Human Rights” September 21, 2013.

Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream,” and the Scientology religion is based on the principles of human rights. The Code of a Scientologist calls on all members of the religion to dedicate themselves “to support true humanitarian endeavors in the fields of human rights.”
