Scientologists Ask “Witch Way do You Want to Live?”

Volunteers from the Church of Scientology Denver wish friends and neighbors a truly Happy Halloween.

The Professor and the Witch chaperone young members of the Church of Scientology Denver on their trick of treat expedition.

When kids from the Church of Scientology Denver celebrate Halloween, they look just like any other normal group of goblins, princesses, witches, cowboys and little green dinosaurs. But instead of the traditional “trick or treat!” these youngsters give back in return for every goodie they receive by handing out copies of their favorite book—The Way to Happiness.

The Way to Happiness is a nonreligious moral code based entirely on common sense, written by author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard.

The children are chaperoned through the neighborhood by a pair of Harry-Potteresque ladies—a “witch” and a professor—both Church staff. The “professor,” Patricia Ross, has raised her 7-year-old daughter Zoe on the precepts of The Way to Happiness.

“Zoe loves The Way to Happiness because it gives her a way to deal with her world,” says Ross. “Last year, she was in first grade and there was a little girl in her school who was bullying her. She decided to apply The Way to Happiness precept ‘Try to treat others as you would want them to treat you.’ The little girl stopped antagonizing Zoe and apologized. The two are now friends. It is a beautiful thing to watch my daughter develop a sense of values and independence.”

To learn more about The Way to Happiness, visit The Way to Happiness web site, the Scientology website, or visit the Church of Scientology of Denver for a tour of the Church’s information center.

Seven-year-old Princess Zoe likes to give in return from the treats she receives. She hands out copies of her favorite book, The Way to Happiness, to every house she visits on Halloween.
