Perhaps nowhere is peace a more pressing issue that in the Middle East. Tel Aviv Scientologists observed International Peace Day with a forum at the Center of Scientology Israel September 21, with artists, educators, journalists and scholars collaborating on how to achieve peace.

The forum was moderated by Scientology Public Relations Officer Sefi Fishler who introduced those attending to The Way to Happiness, a nonreligious moral code based entirely on common sense, written by author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard.

Volunteers distribute copies of The Way to Happiness throughout Israel in Hebrew and Arabic. Two volunteers who distribute the booklet in the Palestinian Authority spoke of its power in calming tension and opening dialogue.

Fishler showed several chapters of The Way to Happiness book on film: Precept 11—“Do Not Harm and Persons of Goodwill;” Precept 19—“Try Not to Do Things to Others That You Would Not Like Them to Do to You;” and Precept 20”—“Try to Treat Others as You Would Want Them to Treat You.”

The forum also featured Dr. Sapir Handelman, chairman of the board of Minds of Peace and former Lentz Fellow in Peace and Conflict Resolution Research at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Wayne State University. Minds of Peace is a nonprofit organization creating the social conditions for peace in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through grassroots efforts to involve the public in the peacemaking process. Handelman has organized 22 small-scale negotiating congresses in the U.S. and Canada, the West Bank, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Delegations from all walks of life discuss, debate and negotiate solutions to conflict.

The round table at the Scientology Center ended with participants sharing their plans to forward peace through their own organizations and activities.

An Ideal Scientology Organization, the Center of Scientology Israel was dedicated August 21, 2012.
