Again this year, the Church of Scientology of Seattle served as hub of community drug prevention

Seattle Scientologists distribute The Truth About Drugs booklets throughout the year to reach youth with the facts so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.

2012 was a year of collaborative community efforts to tackle drug abuse throughout Seattle, with drug prevention open houses at the Church of Scientology providing a forum for those involved in drug prevention to network and coordinate action.

Church volunteers conduct drug education lectures and workshops and made Truth About Drugs program available free of charge to community groups, educators, law enforcement, mentors, and parents.

Scientologists volunteered in local projects such as the annual National Night Out against crime and Red Ribbon Drug Awareness Week and set up information stands at law enforcement conventions and the Church sponsored a Truth About Drugs float in the annual Tour de Terrace Festival.

Alert to local drug trends and problems, upon learning of a crisis at a nearby high school where 42 students ages 15-17 were undergoing treatment for heroin addiction, a Church of Scientology volunteer brought a Truth About Drugs educator kit and hundreds of The Truth About Drugs booklets to the high school and the local police department. Using these materials, teachers conducted drug education lectures focusing on heroin to the entire freshman class.

But Seattle Scientologists don’t believe in waiting for trouble to begin. They reach out to youth, distributing The Truth About Drugs booklets in popular locations around Seattle to ensure young people have the facts they need to make informed decisions to live drug-free.

The Church of Scientology of Seattle and its members are dedicated to eradicating drug abuse through education and invite the participation of all who share the goal of a drug-free world.

The Church of Scientology has published a new brochure, Scientology: How We Help—The Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug-Free World, to meet requests for more information about the drug education and prevention initiative it supports. Volunteers from the Church of Scientology of Seattle distribute Truth About Drugs booklets in locations around the city.

Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The planet has hit a barrier which prevents any widespread social progress—drugs and other biochemical substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.”

The Church of Scientology supports the Truth About Drugs, one of the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaigns. It has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the truth about drugs—factual information on what drugs are and what they do—usage rates drop commensurately.
