One of only five runners to complete the Badwater Ultramarathon 11 times, a 135-mile “by invitation only” race, ultramarathoner John Radich is training for his 12th attempt on behalf of The Way to Happiness Foundation. The race, which takes place July 15-17, is notorious for beginning in Death Valley’s Badwater Basin, the lowest point in the contiguous United States (282 feet below sea level), and ending after a grueling 135 miles at the highest—the 14,505 foot high summit of Mt. Whitney. Runners have 48 hours to complete the course in temperatures surpassing 120F (49° C) in the shade. Little wonder the race is known as the toughest race on Earth.
Radich, who ran across America in 143 days from July to November 2011, participates in partnership with The Way to Happiness Foundation, a Glendale, California-based nonprofit organization. His purpose is to put an end to bullying, school shootings and random acts of violence through broad distribution of The Way to Happiness, a nonreligious moral code based entirely on common sense, written by author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard.
When he dons his running shoes and Way to Happiness T-shirt on July 15, Radich will be racing the Badwater Ultramarathon to raise funds for distribution of 100,000 copies of The Way to Happiness by community projects in South Los Angeles (Compton, Inglewood, Watts) that use the book to help youth steer clear of drugs, crime and gangs.
The Church of Scientology and its members are proud to share the tools for happier living contained in The Way to Happiness with all who work to build a better world. For more information, visit Scientology.org/thewaytohappiness
