Working to Lower Crime Rate Through Drug Education
The link between drugs and violent crime brings the importance of drug education into focus in light of the September 19 release of South Africa national crime statistics. Church of Scientology Pretoria marches in Women’s Month parade to promote drug prevention.

South Africa national crime statistics released September 19 show an increase in violent crimes: murder, attempted murder, armed house robbery and carjacking. At the same time, drug-related crime has increased 13.5 percent.
Volunteers from the Church of Scientology Pretoria are committed to lowering crime by reducing drug abuse before it begins. They conduct drug education and prevention programs, support and contribute to programs that promote drug-free living, and train others to use the Truth About Drugs curriculum. The Church of Scientology makes Truth About Drugs drug education materials available to educators, law enforcement and community programs.
Scientologists helped plan the finale of South Africa’s Women’s Month—a parade organized by the Pretoria Police and local government to take a stand against drugs, crime and prostitution—and Scientologists marched in the parade carrying their Truth About Drugs banner.
Scientologists on five continents work in their communities throughout the year to empower others with the truth about drugs.
It has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the truth about drugs—factual information on what drugs are and what they do—usage rates drop commensurately.
The Church of Scientology has published a brochure,Scientology: How We Help—The Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug-Free World, to meet requests for more information about the drug education and prevention initiative it supports. To learn more or read the brochure, visit the Scientology website.
Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The planet has hit a barrier which prevents any widespread social progress—drugs and other biochemical substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.”
