CIBSE says new Centres of Excellence Report demonstrates importance of knowledge sharing, encouraging expertise for energy efficiency in buildings

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) welcomes the report The Case for Centres of Excellence in sustainable building design that was launched today at The Royal Academy of Engineering.

As one of the core funding bodies for the project, CIBSE highlights that the Report forms part of the UK Government’s Department of Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) Low Carbon Construction Action Plan. CIBSE Member Doug King, Principal of King Shaw Associates Ltd was instrumental in helping prepare the Report.

Stephen Matthews, Chief Executive of CIBSE says: “The importance of sharing expertise and knowledge is something that is part of the ethos of CIBSE, and we welcome the Report highlighting this.

“The proposed Centres of Excellence offer an opportunity to encourage best practice by focusing on integrating the supply chain which is a very important step. The sort of joined-up thinking that the Centres could enable would be extremely beneficial, the challenge is to up-skill the workforce with the best available knowledge.”

The CIBSE President, Professor David Fisk in his presidential address last month called for an understanding of the need to work with real performance data and less ‘greenwash’ in building services systems.
