Behind the music with Cision
Interviews and analysis with artists and industry insiders as Cision MusicWeek explores contemporary communications in the music industry LONDON, Feb 12, 2010 This week Cision has been celebrating the imminent BRIT Awards with five days dedicated to music media in the UK and across Europe. Cision's MusicWeek UK provides snapshots of the media and communications environment in which the UK music industry currently works - or doesn't. From traditional print to niche blogs and social networks, from iTunes to Spotify, the industry and the ways in which it communicates are in rapid transition. Every day at the Cision UK blog we've been publishing analyses of communications and media as they relate to the music industry. There are daily lists of Top 10 blogs for a range of music genres, from jazz and classical to pop, rock, dance and urban; UK and European industry print titles ranked by circulation that show how the travails of that channel reflect those of the industry as a whole; and a look at the impact of streaming service Spotify and its efforts to crack America. We've also been talking to artists, producers, label bosses and other industry insiders to find out how social media marketing and personal branding are changing the role of the artist in the music industry - and the industry's role in marketing the artist. Among those giving their views: * Rapper and producer Sway * 'Happy Hardcore' DJ Sinden * Producer & Guitarist Al Shux * DJ and founder of BBE label Peter Adarkwah * Dub step producer, DJ and Hyperdub label founder Kode9 * DJ and party planner Rod Gilmore "The web is having dramatic consequences for the distribution and consumption of all kinds of content," says Falk Rehkopf, Head of Cision Research Europe, "and music and news media have been at the forefront of this disruption. As such, all of our clients need to adapt their communications practices to a new environment, and MusicWeek effectively demonstrates how Cision's media data provides real insight, supporting them in making that change."
