Cision Uses the Power of the Social Web to Help Raise Awareness and Bring Aid and Resources to Refugees Worldwide

CHICAGO, November 22, 2011 Cision today announced its participation in the United Nations Refugee Agency’s Blue Key Campaign and launched a social media initiative in its support.

The Blue Key Campaign is the first U.S.-based initiative to channel the energy of individual citizens to provide support for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the leading organization safeguarding the rights and well-being of the over 43 million displaced people around the world. Individuals participating in the program purchase a Blue Key – and join a community working with noted celebrities and political leaders around the country to champion the refugee cause.

Cision’s social initiative encourages 500 of the top digital influencers in the U.S. to share the story of the refugees’ plight and the campaign’s goals with their followers and friends across Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and the entire social web. Cision purchased Blue Keys on behalf of 500 top U.S. digital influencers and in an effort to help tell the campaign’s story to these thought leaders using sharable social content.

“For centuries, stories have been a driving force in efforts to help change the world. When we became aware of the UN’s campaign to address human suffering, we wanted to support it the best way we could, by helping to tell and share the stories of those in need,” said Heidi Sullivan, Vice President, Global Media Research, of Cision. “Cision has been in the business of powering stories for almost 80 years and through online channels and the social web, stories can be discovered, shared and spread to a much larger audience than ever before.”

Supporters may purchase Blue Keys at  thebluekey.org and spread the word about the Blue Key Campaign to their friends, families and followers online by sharing the link to the page, tweeting using the #bluekey hashtag, and joining the movement to help share the stories of refugees worldwide.
