Global bank Citi takes over as the main sponsor for the scholarship Female Economist of the Year. Spotify was the previous sponsor. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding female student at the Stockholm School of Economics.

The Female Economist of the Year was founded in 2001 by Swedish-American business woman Barbro Ehnbom, and is awarded annually. The aim is to promote future female leaders and to contribute to improved conditions for women in business.

“We are proud and delighted to welcome a female laureate to Citi on a scholarship. We look forward to providing insight into the world of banking and think we can provide a fantastic platform for an international career,” says Eirik Winter, Nordic Head of Investment Banking and Chairman Nordics for Citi and one of the two mentors for the laureate.

At Citi, the laureate will be offered a tailor-made position that provides insight in a broad variety of the bank’s businesses and operations. The scholarship will be divided between Stockholm and London and the laureate will be provided with two mentors, one female and one male.

“We are proud to present Citi as our new main sponsor. Citi will provide the laureate with a platform for an international career in a business where there is a strong demand and need for more women,” says Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics.

The application period opens in September and this year’s laureate will be appointed at a ceremony at the Stockholm School of Economics in December.
