U.S. Chamber Highlights Irving’s Business-Oriented Approach in ‘Enterprising Cities’ Report

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Irving, Texas, is a model for   efficient government, business-friendly development, and public-private   economic growth initiatives, according to a new   report released today by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The report,   Enterprising Cities, was commissioned by   the Foundation and   prepared by Praxis   Strategy Group.“Enterprise-friendly leadership and   policies at the city level can facilitate local economic growth by supporting   entrepreneurs and mobilizing effective partnerships for improving the   conditions for business and job growth,” said Al Martinez-Fonts, executive   vice president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. “We need more policies   like those implemented by the City of Irving in partnership with the Greater   Irving- Las Colinas Chamber   to drive stronger growth,   competition, and success among businesses across the country.”The Enterprising   Cities report   highlights seven cities—Dayton, Ohio; Irving, Texas; Memphis, Tennessee;   Minneapolis, Minnesota; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Antonio, Texas; and Sioux   Falls, South Dakota—which in their own unique way, are examples of how   enterprise-friendly strategies and partnerships can create an environment in   which free enterprise creates jobs and prosperity.
 
  As a 2012
Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipient, Irving is a recognized business-centric city. The Baldrige Award, typically given to private   organizations, is the federal government’s program for organizational quality   and sound management practices, administered by the National Institute of   Standards and Technology. Irving is the second city   recipient since government agencies became eligible in 2007. Irving’s business-oriented approach is   highlighted by a set of key best practices: sound fiscal management, citizen   feedback, a team culture, strategic planning and process efficiency,   community safety, and sustainability.
