U.S. Chamber Highlights Irving’s Business-Oriented Approach in ‘Enterprising Cities’ Report
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Irving, Texas, is a model for efficient government, business-friendly development, and public-private economic growth initiatives, according to a new report released today by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The report, Enterprising Cities, was commissioned by the Foundation and prepared by Praxis Strategy Group.“Enterprise-friendly leadership and policies at the city level can facilitate local economic growth by supporting entrepreneurs and mobilizing effective partnerships for improving the conditions for business and job growth,” said Al Martinez-Fonts, executive vice president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. “We need more policies like those implemented by the City of Irving in partnership with the Greater Irving- Las Colinas Chamber to drive stronger growth, competition, and success among businesses across the country.”The Enterprising Cities report highlights seven cities—Dayton, Ohio; Irving, Texas; Memphis, Tennessee; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Antonio, Texas; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota—which in their own unique way, are examples of how enterprise-friendly strategies and partnerships can create an environment in which free enterprise creates jobs and prosperity. As a 2012 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipient, Irving is a recognized business-centric city. The Baldrige Award, typically given to private organizations, is the federal government’s program for organizational quality and sound management practices, administered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Irving is the second city recipient since government agencies became eligible in 2007. Irving’s business-oriented approach is highlighted by a set of key best practices: sound fiscal management, citizen feedback, a team culture, strategic planning and process efficiency, community safety, and sustainability.
