McDivitt Law Firm awards 10th grader Markus Kolozsy for distracted driving video in fourth annual public service announcement contest

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (May 27, 2011)McDivitt Law Firm is pleased to announce Markus Kolozsy, a 10th grade student at The Classical Academy, as the first place winner of its fourth annual public service announcement contest on the dangers of distracted driving.

With more than 10 hours of work on his iPod Touch to create his PSA, Mark believes the impact of the spot comes from his choice of location.

“I thought the jail scene would convey a powerful image about the possible consequences of distracted driving,” said Markus, who started making films about three years ago.

As part of winning the contest, Markus chose a $1,500 gift card. His other prize option included a Mac laptop with a custom tutorial from local Mac expert Mark Pimentel of AssisTECH. Markus says he would like to pursue a career in filmmaking, but he’s also interested in architecture and marketing and is looking into summer internships in these fields so he can continue to prepare for his future. His PSA also will be aired on local television, and a monetary donation was also given to The Classical Academy on behalf of McDivitt Law Firm.

“This contest allows students to express their creativity in a fun and rewarding manner and also confront a real-life issue on their terms,” Colorado personal injury attorney Mike McDivitt said. “We feel Markus did an exceptional job communicating the danger and effects of distracted driving. All this year’s contestants should be applauded for their outstanding efforts.”

The PSA contest was open to area high school students, who submitted videos about distracted driving, impaired driving, and seatbelt safety, to name a few. The entries, which were judged on students’ abilities to analyze the topic and produce quality videos, can be viewed at www.McDivittMakesADifference.com.
