Las Vegas Hosts Largest National Gathering of Nuclear Science and Engineering Students; “Nuclear Science and Technology: Past, Present, and Future” is Theme

La Grange Park, IL – April 12, 2012 – Nuclear science and engineering students from around the country will gather April 12-15 in Las Vegas at the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Student Conference, ANS President Eric P. Loewen, PhD, announced today.  “This event is the single greatest opportunity for students in the nuclear science and technology community to gather, to learn from each other and from international experts,” said Loewen.  “We’re pleased to be a part of the future of nuclear science and technology, represented by these young people.”

The National Student Conference is hosted this year, April 12-15, by the University of Nevada Las Vegas Student Section of the American Nuclear Society.  Its theme, “Nuclear Science and Technology: Past, Present, and Future,” offers unparalleled opportunities for students in all disciplines to learn and grow as professionals as leading experts in the field.  At the conference, students will present the latest developments in nuclear science and engineering.

When asked about the conference, Loewen said, “We’re expecting the best and brightest minds in nuclear science and technology to gather at this conference to learn about new advances in our industry, attend workshops, tour facilities and network with other professionals.  It’s obvious that these young professionals are excited to be learning about nuclear science and technology and will be a part of this nation’s technology future.”

Dozens of the nuclear science and technology community’s most prominent companies, organizations, national laboratories, and universities will exhibit in a two-day Career Exhibit.  The conference also features technical paper sessions and workshops on nuclear science and technology applications that range from aerospace, biology and medicine to environmental science, nonproliferation, and commercial nuclear power operations.

Added Vanessa Sanders, Co-Chair of the student conference and herself a student at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, “With the help and support of our corporate sponsors, we’ve created an exciting and powerful event.  The caliber of speakers and topics are really resonating with the attendees who don’t want to miss what promises to be an exceptional program.”

There are 36 ANS Student Sections established at universities throughout the United States and Canada.  Sections provide a means for students to develop professionally.  The University of Nevada Las Vegas Student Section of the American Nuclear Society is one of the most active sections within the American Nuclear Society.  Student Sections compete to host the annual conference on a rotating basis.
