WASHINGTON, DC- Clark Hill PLC has announced the formation of a national Environment, Energy and Natural Resources (EENR) practice with the addition of three new attorneys in its Washington office. Attorneys Robert Andersen, Kenneth von Schaumburg and John Sheehan have recently joined Clark Hill and each brings extensive government background as well as private sector experience to the EENR practice.

Andersen will co-chair the firm’s EENR team. He recently joined the group after 36 years of experience in the EENR field.

“We want to build upon the firm’s strengths. Practitioners at Clark Hill have experience in all environmental media - air, water, hazardous waste, toxics - as well as energy and natural resources issues,” Andersen said. “They are also capable of counseling clients on that broad range of issues, handling EENR policy issues before Congress and the agencies, and representing clients in litigation when necessary.”

Andersen is a former Chief Counsel of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, who also served in senior environmental positions at the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, and with the National Science Foundation before returning to private practice in 2004.

von Schaumburg, who will co-chair the EENR team, served as Deputy General Counsel to the United States Environmental Protection Agency during the administration of George W. Bush.

Sheehan served as a senior trial attorney and Special Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General in the United States Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division.

The firm’s EENR practitioners in Chicago, Phoenix, Washington and throughout Michigan will expand services to clients in such emerging areas as climate change, carbon dioxide regulation, control of non-point source water pollution (including combined sewer overflows), the regulation of hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”), wetlands regulations and management, and the siting and permitting of renewable energy projects. Throughout their careers, Clark Hill’s EENR team members have handled environmental, energy, or natural resources matters in all fifty states and internationally.

Clark Hill CEO John Hern, in announcing the Practice Group’s formation, stated, “the linked issues of environmental regulation, energy independence, and natural resources conservation will challenge our commercial, industrial and public sector clients for the foreseeable future. With the addition of Rob Andersen, Ken von Schaumburg and John Sheehan we have provided a solid platform for the integration of our environmental services. The establishment of the EENR practice group will position Clark Hill to assist its clients in meeting those challenges.”
