VAT in Spain to rise next week

According to the latest figures Spain is continuing to grow in popularity among British holidaymakers. More easy access from UK airports and a favourable exchange rate have made the Costas and Canaries an even more attractive destination this year.  However anyone thinking of booking a late summer/autumn break in Spain should take note that the Spanish  government is to increase the general rate of VAT from September 1, from 18 per cent to 21 per cent, in a bid to boost the country’s ailing economy and the rate for 'leisure items' such as accommodation and food will rise from 8 per cent to 10 per cent.  Even with these increases a holiday in Spain will still represent a great deal but anyone wanting to beat the budget should book before September 1.

CLC Holidays offers very good value holiday packages to Spain at a choice of resorts on the Costa del Sol and Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Accommodation standards are very high and all resorts are self contained within secure communities providing a huge range of activities and facilities with a great choice of restaurants and bars . An example price for seven nights in a studio apartment at Sunningdale Village in Tenerife for two people in September is £259.
