Study - Krill Oil supplementation lowers key cardiovascular risk factor

Researchers have announced the publication of a new study on the Krill oil used in Cleanmarine Krill Oil in the February 2014 edition of Nutrition Research.

The study investigated the effects of this Krill Oil on blood lipids in subjects with "borderline high" or "high" triglyceride (TG) levels. A total of 300 volunteers were divided into five groups and supplemented with krill oil at either 0.5, 1, 2 or 4 grams per day or placebo (olive oil). The subjects included in the study had blood Triglyceride values between 150 and 499 mg/dL. Blood lipids were measured at baseline, 6 weeks and 12 weeks of treatment.

Relative to subjects in the placebo group, those administered krill oil had a statistically significant 10.2% reduction in serum Triglyceride levels. Moreover, LDL-C levels were not increased in the krill oil groups relative to the placebo group, an important finding considering an increase in LDL-C has been observed in some fish oil trials.

"It is remarkable that krill oil, providing on average less than 400 mg per day of EPA and DHA, produced a significant 10% reduction in serum triglyceride levels," said Dr. William Harris, PhD, Professor of Medicine, University of South Dakota School of Medicine, and co-inventor of the HS Omega-3 Index Blood Test, and member of the Aker BioMarine Antarctic Science Board.

The outcome of this pooled analysis suggests that krill oil is effective in reducing a key cardiovascular risk factor. However, owing to the individual fluctuations of TG concentrations measured, a study with more individual measurements per treatment group is needed to increase the confidence of these findings.

Pure Omega 3 from Cleanmarine Krill Oil supports Heart, Brain and Vision

Supplementing with Cleanmarine Krill Oil can boost your Omega 3 levels and can do so more effectively than fish oils.

Just one small Cleanmarine Krill Oil capsule a day can provide the same to superior benefits as 1 to 3 large fish oil capsules

The Benefits

Heart Health
The effect of krill oil on hyperlipidaemia was investigated in a recent clinical trial and showed that krill oil is effective by reducing total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides while increasing levels of HDL ("Good" cholesterol)

Brain Function
DHA is an important building block in the brain and  DHA from Cleanmarine Krill Oil absorbs better  than from fish oils.

Vision
DHA is known for its support of vision and can help reduce sight degeneration
Astaxanthin provides an antioxidant shield against retinal damage from UV light

Cleanmarine Krill Oil is
• Sustainably and ethically harvested
• 100% pure from the cleanest ocean (every batch is tested for purity)
• Requires none of the extensive processing undertaken on fish oils
• No fishy aftertaste or burps!

Antarctic Krill are tiny shrimp like crustaceans that live in our cool deep oceans. They are the most abundant living organism on the planet and provide a source of EPA and DHA in the form of Phospholipids, rather than the Triglyceride Omega 3 found in fish oils. Our cell membranes are made up predominantly of phospholipids so the EPA and DHA are easily assimilated by the body. Fish oils need to be processed by the body before they can be assimilated and so are not as efficiently absorbed.

Krill also contain a powerful natural anti-oxidant - Astaxanthin - which gives them their reddish colour. This helps keep the oil fresh and provides you with an anti-oxidant boost.

Sustainably and ethically sourced
Cleanmarine uses Krill Oil that has been certified to the Marine Stewardship Councils standard for sustainability.

Purity
Cleanmarine Krill are harvested from deep in the Antarctic ocean, the cleanest ocean on the planet and as they are low down in the food chain do not accumulate the toxins that fish can obtain.
