2012 Holiday Shopping Infographic: Survey Shows 93% of Women Rely on Blogger Recommendations 70% Go Over Budget for a Good Deal this Holiday Season
San Francisco, CA, November 14, 2012—As retailers ramp up for the post-Thanksgiving shopping season, a new survey and infographic reveal the significant influence that blogger recommendations, sale prices and coupons have in driving holiday purchases. The infographic was completed by the technology-based social media company, Clever Girls Collective, who surveyed 720 women on their holiday shopping plans. The results revealed that the average family plans to spend $515 on gifts this holiday season and more than 70% say they will go over that budget for a good deal.
Other survey findings indicate the power of blogger recommendations and sale prices, including:
- 93.3% say they have purchased a product from a blogger recommendation.
- 75% are influenced by sale prices.
- 67% of women plan to shop online on Black Friday (November 23, 2012).
- 79% plan to shop on Cyber Monday (November 26, 2012).
- Respondents plan to shop in both big box and online stores, with 79% saying they plan to shop in a big box store and 75% responding that they plan to shop online as well.
“Retailers know that sale prices influence holiday shopping but our survey shows that combining sales, coupons and blogger recommendations, can drive shoppers to spend more and heavily impact their purchasing decisions,” said Stefania Pomponi Butler, Co-Founder, President and Chief Evangelist of Clever Girls Collective. “Online and big box retailers have a chance to truly propel these decisions by reaching specific bloggers and offering consumers the best possible deals.”
The results of the Clever Girls Collective’s survey can be found in the “2012 Social Media and the Holiday Shopper” infographic which outlines the survey responses. The full infographic can be found at clevergirlscollective.com/about-us/press and is free to share and use.
“The challenge retailers have is getting products in front of consumers through trusted sources,” added Pomponi Butler. “It’s not an easy task when there are thousands of bloggers out there. Clever Girls Collective reaches 40 million women a month and brands can use our network to reach those consumers very quickly.”
