Prince Albert II of Monaco releases a rescued duck into the wild at Swedish coastal resort
Prince Albert II of Monaco accompanied by The Duchess of York and Actor Billy Zane, known for his role as Caledon Hockley in the movie Titanic, gathered in Gothenburg yesterday to celebrate the Prince receiving the Perfect World Foundation Award and release the rescued duck back into the wild.
The Prince also inaugurated Project Ocean, The Perfect World Foundation’s latest campaign, which aims to spread knowledge about fishing nets and other lost fishing equipment in the sea.
During the event, divers, plastic experts and representatives from Sweden's only marine recycling centre were present along with a mountain of ghost nets that had been salvaged to show the Prince what is hiding in the Swedish seas. The duck, named Anders, was rehabilitated after being found injured with a fishing hook in its beak.
Prince Albert is the ninth recipient of the Perfect World Award, which has previously gone to Greta Thunberg, Sir David Attenborough and Dr Jane Goodall, among others.
Prince Albert II of Monaco has been heavily involved in conservation of the oceans. So much so he has been known as ‘The Green Prince’ and has spent his adult life raising awareness of climate change and inspiring progress across governments, business and in schools. He is the first head of state to have visited both the North and South Poles in order to further his research and has also invested over $100 million in funding for projects focusing on limiting the effects of climate change through The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
The Perfect World Foundation award honours a person who has made significant contributions to the conservation of our natural world and contributed to global awareness of the importance of protecting our planet’s wildlife and environment to secure a sustainable future for all its inhabitants.
The Perfect World Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Sweden, works with wildlife and nature in crisis around the world. By increasing knowledge and spreading awareness, the foundation‘s grand mission is to save the world.
