Sahlgrenska University Researchers are Using Cline Scientific Technology to Combat Alzheimer’s Disease
May 26, 2020, Gothenburg, Sweden:
A research group at Sahlgrenska University Hospital are using Cline Scientific’s nanogradient technology to better understand Alzheimer’s disease by turning stem cells into neurons that are exposed to the responsible component that causes Alzheimer’s Disease
Cline’s technology is being used to further investigate this protein, Amyloid-β, to better understand how the disease develops and more importantly, how to combat it.
Alzheimer´s disease (AD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that affects over 50 million individuals worldwide.
Using Cline's nanogradient technology, the researchers can stimulate the neurons with the protein fragment in a way that is controlled yet similar to the natural environment of the brain. This fragment is produced mainly by neurons. To date, most clinical trials targeting Aβ production to stop Alzheimer's have failed. Cline's technology is paving the pathway to work with Alzheimer's disease in a way that has yet to be possible until now.
“The biggest advantage of this technology is the possibility to investigate direct effects of different concentrations of the Aβ peptide on neurite and synapse physiology during neuronal maturation.”- Sandra Roselli, PhD Candidate in the group of Neurochemical pathophysiology and diagnostics research unit
Cline’s nanogradient technology is also heavily utilized to research and develop therapies for cancer diagnostics and cartilage repair.
"Our mission and vision for the future of Cline Scientific has always been to develop a technology that can be utilized across multiple areas within life science. Our shift in concentration to dedicate our efforts to R&D alongside our oncology and stem cell researchers have proven to be effective and critical for the next phase of the company. We look forward to further exploring how our technology can improve the lives of patients with a variety of diseases around the world." - Patrik Sundh, CEO of Cline Scientific
