Ben Roberts, Managing Director of fine jewellery brand Clogau Gold, is announced Family Business Director of the Year finalist.

Managing Director of North Wales based jewellery firm Clogau Gold, Ben Roberts, eagerly awaits the 23rd September to discover whether or not he is announced Family Business Director of the Year at the Instutute of Directors' Director of the Year Awards UK Final 2011.

Ben was announced a finalist in June. Only winners of the regional awards were eligible to enter the UK Final which allowed Ben, who was awarded Young Director of the Year – North Wales back in April, to take part.

The news arrives during a pivotal year for the Clogau Gold brand which was founded by Ben’s father, William Roberts, in 1989. Ben took over as Managing Director in 2007 and has led the company from strength to strength including an introduction into international territory in 2008.

Compared to the same period in 2010, the first five months of 2011 have so far seen sales to large jewellery chains and travel retail partners grow by 233% and sales to independent and buying group chains grow by 15%. These were both contributing factors to an increase in company turnover of 45%.

The Royal wedding in April presented a golden opportunity for Clogau to grow brand awareness, gain new trading customers and, after the dust had settled somewhat, to re-think their direction. Clogau Gold’s travel retail presence now stretches across Europe, North America and Asia including several airline, shipping and airport trading partners (British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Harding Brothers, Heathrow, Gatwick, World Duty Free and Harrods to name but a few).
