Brinks Shareholder Gary M. Ropski Named Fellow of Litigation Counsel of America
CHICAGO--Gary M. Ropski, a shareholder at intellectual property law firm Brinks Gilson & Lione, has been selected as a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA), a highly selective honorary society that represents the best in law among its membership.
Ropski, who served as president of Brinks from 2006 to 2011, has more than 35 years of experience in intellectual property law, including more than 100 intellectual property cases. He has been involved in several jury trials and almost two dozen appeals, including at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
"I'm truly honored to be invited to join this distinguished group of litigators," said Ropski. "The goals of the LCA are very much aligned with those I've set for myself throughout my career."
During that illustrious career, Ropski has litigated in every federal judicial circuit in the United States and in nearly all of the top ten districts for patent litigation. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Illinois and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), as well as numerous federal courts. He also taught patent and copyright law for 17 years at Northwestern University School of Law.
Ropski currently focuses his practice on leading teams in high-stakes patent litigation, as well as on acting as a court-appointed Special Master in intellectual property cases, and in arbitration and mediation matters where his extensive and varied experience allows him to bring special insights to efforts to resolve disputes. He also chairs Brinks' Germany Task Force, maintaining client relationships and monitoring developments in IP law in that country.
Fewer than one-half of one percent of American lawyers are invited to become LCA fellows, which accords membership to attorneys based on their excellence and accomplishment in trial and appellate litigation, as well as their reputation for having superior ethics.
The purpose of the LCA is to provide an outlet for scholarly authorship of legal articles on trial and litigation practice, to promote superior advocacy and ethical standards in the practice of law, to assist in community involvement by its membership, and to advance a superior judiciary by taking relevant positions on issues or legislation affecting judicial compensation and benefits, as well as those affecting American litigation processes.
