CM Biomass announces Simon Plagborg as new CEO
Copenhagen, January 6th, 2025
One of the world’s largest suppliers of wood pellets and biomass has appointed Simon Plagborg as its new CEO, effective January 6th, 2025
Since December, Ask Michael Munck has been the interim CEO for CM Biomass, one of the world’s largest suppliers of wood pellets and biomass. A permanent CEO has now been found, meaning that Ask Michael Munck will reassume his position as Group CFO at CM Biomass.
“We were looking for a profile that had the right commercial and leadership qualifications, but also thrives in a growing international family-owned business. Simon Plagborg fits the bill, and we are, of course, delighted to welcome him to the CM Biomass team,” says Christian Junker, Chairman of the Board of Directors
Simon Plagborg joins CM Biomass with more than 15 years of experience in executive management and a background in sales and commercial roles from various companies. He joins CM Biomass from a position as a member of the executive team and CCO at Skamol Group.
“I am excited to join CM Biomass, and I look forward to putting my experience in sales and strategy execution to good use and secure a path of continued growth for CM Biomass. The tasks ahead are well-suited to my abilities, and with our excellent team, I am confident we can drive the company forward in the realm of sustainable energy,” says Simon Plagborg.
Securing growth in complex markets with rising demands
In 2021, the Danish shipping conglomerate United Shipping and Trading Company (USTC) acquired the majority share of CM Biomass. Since then, USTC has increased its share to 89 percent as the visions, values, and culture at CM Biomass align perfectly with those of USTC. CM Biomass has built a solid platform to pursue its ambitions, positioning the company as one of the largest suppliers in the world of wood pellets and biomass.
“With the addition of Simon Plagborg, we have managed to complete the management team so that CM Biomass can continue the further development and growth of the company. In Simon we have found a leader with a strong commercial mindset who understands the complexity of running a commodity business in the global marketplace while handling all its volatility and challenging value chains,” says Nina Østergaard Borris, board member and co-owner of USTC
CM Biomass’ executive board will subsequently contain Simon Plagborg as CEO and Ask Michael Munck as Group CFO.
