PRESS RELEASE

Heart of the South West Local Transport Board

4th July 2014

The Heart of the South West Local Transport Board is to consider the business case for the first three major transport schemes on 31st of July.

The Local Transport Board was set up in 2013 to manage funding for major transport schemes devolved by government to Local Enterprise Partnerships and Local Transport Authorities. Last July the Local Transport Board approved its first indicative programme for the period from 2015 onwards.

The initial schemes from this programme are now coming forward to have their business cases considered. If the scheme business cases are approved, the Local Transport Board will confirm the funding allocations for these schemes, which are expected to commence construction in 2015.

The three schemes to be considered are:

  • Yeovil Western Corridor: a series of highway improvements to unlock development, with a total cost of £11.1m seeking a contribution of £6.49m.
  • Torbay Western Corridor: a series of highway improvements to reduce congestion and improve access to development, with a total cost of £12.2m seeking a contribution of £7.3m.
  • Marsh Barton station: a new railway station serving a major business Park at Exeter and proposed residential development, with a total cost of £4.3m seeking a contribution of £2.0m.

Liz Waugh from the Local Transport Board said: “The Local Transport Board works together to shape economic growth through investment into infrastructure: a resilient transport system is essential for a successful, thriving economy.

“These schemes will have a big impact upon life in the Heart of the South West area and represent chances for investment in the area.”

Details of the business case documents are available on the Local Transport Board website www.heartofswlep.co.uk/ltb-scheme-business-cases
