Up-and-coming Swedish songwriting duo release first single

A poetic memoir depicting the sentiment of today's twenty-somethings marks the first release of Swedish songwriting duo Rallie & Coal.

Swedish songwriter duo Rallie & Coal, comprised of vocalist Maya Nalani Carlsson and guitarist, vocalist and Swedish Idol finalist Fredrik Toremark, are currently completing their second and final year at Musikmakarna in northern Sweden, and have already composed music with the likes of Benjamin Ingrosso, Ana Diaz and Petra Marklund. As part of their programme, the two have spent the autumn interning with Michel Zitron and John Martin, the duo behind Swedish House Mafia's "Don't you worry child", as well as Universal Music Group in Germany. In just the past three months, Rallie & Coal have written five new songs, of which Prom Queen Crown is the first to be released today.

"Prom Queen Crown"

Prom Queen Crown is a culmination of emotional confusion, nostalgia and reminiscing over what young adults of today may regard as a simpler time, something to which New York-born and London-bred Maya Nalani (aka Rallie) can relate.

"You're in a place in your life, you know where you want to go and who you want to be, but you have no idea how to get there. How easy it would be to go back to high school where your biggest worry was some superficial popularity contest, the prom queen crown being a symbol of that need for affirmation," says Rallie.

The text is written by Rallie as a personal memory of her youth, an interpretation of how the pressure of fitting in made its marks. Feelings of inadequacy that no one around her seemed to understand. The song brings you back to that naiveté, adding playfulness to an otherwise fairly serious message.

Fredrik (aka Coal), previously known from the 2014 season of Sweden's version of Idol, where he stole the hearts of viewers and judges alike with his innate talent and Justin Bieber looks, has composed the duo's first song along with Rallie and producer Oliver Björkvall. Oliver Björkvall has also produced the song.

Filled with contradicting emotions in a poetically composed and wonderfully produced package, Prom Queen Crown by Rallie & Coal will be available from today on Spotify (listen), Apple Music and other major music platforms.
