CAP HIRES VP TO EXPAND PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
Charles Wagner to lead CAP's services in health IT marketplace
Northfield, Ill., February 8, 2011— The College of American Pathologists (CAP) announced today the hiring of Charles Wagner as Vice President of its STS (SNOMED Terminology Solutions™) division. Wagner will lead CAP STS’ professional services capability expansion in the health IT marketplace.
CAP STS, a professional services provider with a diversified service offering related to health IT strategy and planning; clinical health information management; and health care standards, is committed to improving patient care through the advancement of interoperable electronic health records (EHRs).
In his new position, Wagner will help CAP STS build new and value-added services targeted to CAP members and lead business development in the health IT community. These initiatives will also help support the CAP’s Transformation efforts now underway to foster new and enhanced roles for pathologists as critical members of the patient care team through innovative, evolving health IT.

Wagner, who has more than 26 years of information technology experience, is well-versed in building and managing professional services practices, and has a proven track record of successful business development and strong client management skills.
Prior to joining CAP STS, Wagner was Managing Director, U.S. Healthcare Operations and Global Healthcare Application Delivery, at Dell Services, where he led a worldwide team of more than 1,200 supporting training, application development and support, client and project management, business and clinical transformation, implementation services, and IT. He also led, managed, and drove all client services and delivery, and developed and implemented a global expansion strategy.
Previously, he was Senior Vice President, Professional Services, at Eclipsys Corporation; Executive Vice President/Associate Partner, at Healthlink (a division of IBM); Senior Manager at CapGemini-Ernst & Young; and Senior Manager at IBM Global Services.

The CAP has more than 40 years of experience in health care terminology standards development, resulting in the creation of SNOMED Clinical Terms® (SNOMED CT®), a globally recognized, clinical health care terminology and a standard in the EHR. CAP STS began offering professional services around health IT strategy and planning, clinical health information management, and health care standards as the U.S. government and governments around the world began to focus on health data exchange and interoperability to launch interconnected EHR systems.
Health information interoperability and EHR adoption are key components of U.S. health care reform initiatives, included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act to move toward building the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN).
