Pair of College of American Pathologists Members Quoted in The New York Times
In its March 29th edition, The New York Times turned to two experts from the College of American Pathologist membership to reflect on a study regarding test results by the medical company Theranos. Specifically, the story, titled "Study of Theranos Medical Tests Finds Irregular Results," said:
"'This represents just another effort for a failing company to cover up bad press for a technology that is not ready for prime time," Dr. Frederick L. Kiechle, medical director for clinical pathology at Memorial Healthcare System in Hollywood, Fla., said about Theranos’s letter to the journal.
Dr. Kiechle said it was known that cells in blood “tend to clump together and travel in groups,” so the tiny amount collected from a finger prick might not be representative."
And, further:
"Greg Miller, professor of pathology and director of clinical chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University, said the discrepancies in cholesterol results were “medically meaningful” and suggested that Theranos had not properly calibrated its tests to an industry standard."
