Significant increases in new enrollments and dollars invested illustrate economic recovery and financial savvy among Coloradans

Denver, CO, February 8, 2011 – CollegeInvest, Colorado’s state sponsored 529 college savings program, announced today that Coloradans’ savings for higher education has shown significant growth, an indication of a strengthening economy and a renewed awareness of the importance of long term financial planning.
Comparing figures from December 2009 to December 2010, CollegeInvest logged an overall 37% increase in the number of new 529 account enrollments. What’s more, the organization garnered a 25% increase in total dollars placed in 529 plans with more than $96 million invested in December 2010, alone.
“We are extremely pleased with this news”, commented Debra DeMuth, CollegeInvest’s Director. “Not only do these figures demonstrate an increasingly healthy economic climate, but also that the people of Colorado understand the importance of long-term saving to fund their families’ higher education needs”.
