Coloplast, the global medical devices company, recently held a ‘Lunch & Learn’ for staff at its Peterborough HQ in conjunction with City College Peterborough.

Employees were able to investigate the courses available this autumn at the college and talk with the tutors. Courses on offer range from English and mathematics qualification courses, career development and management programmes, arts and crafts skills and complementary therapies.

Rachael Dawson, who works in the marketing team at Coloplast and attended the lunch, said: “I found a number of courses I want to investigate further. A couple of the day courses interested me on a personal level, but I am also keen to develop my career at Coloplast and several of the more formal courses on offer at the college looked great! This is a really helpful way to look at investing in your future, so easy and informal.”

HR director at Coloplast, Sam Sedwill, added: “This is a fun and relaxed way for our staff to find out what options are on offer locally and to see what interests them, whether that is looking at ways to develop their career and gain more formal qualifications, or look at something completely different.”

Jackie Hall, market development manager at City College Peterborough, said: “We enjoyed our day at Coloplast. The staff were very engaged and interested in what we have on offer. The ‘Lunch & Learn’ idea is a great way for us to interact with staff in their workplace and we are sure several Coloplast employees will be joining our courses in September.”

Coloplast, which is renowned for its pro-active approach to learning and development, regularly holds informal knowledge sharing events for employees.

Lunchtime learning is just one small way in which Coloplast maintains its record of investing three times the UK national average in staff learning and development programmes.

Activities such as this, together with the company’s more formal programmes, help to drive forward its continuing high performance and results-based culture. It is this culture which ensures Coloplast is consistently listed as one of the ‘Times Top 100 Companies to Work For’ and that it continues to be rated the best company worldwide for ‘Corporate reputation of the medical device industry – the patient perspective’ as recently announced by the independent research organisation PatientView survey.
