Lars G Josefsson, Vattenfall CEO and 3C founder, delivers evaluation tool to EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso.

Vattenfall was the originator of the 3C (Combat Climate Change) group in 2007, which today includes nearly 70 of the world’s largest companies, including BP, Siemens and Unilever, as well as leading companies from the US, India and China. 3C supports the UN in its negotiation process aimed at obtaining a global climate agreement and in mobilizing the business community around this common goal. “Identifying a solution to climate change requires close co-operation between politics, business and research. With 3C, we have taken an important initiative to both support and provide recommendations on climate policy,” said Lars G Josefsson, CEO of Vattenfall and initiator of 3C. 3C is now implementing its next initiative by delivering an evaluation tool – a scorecard – to EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso today Friday, 20 November. The tool can be used to evaluate and interpret the results of the Copenhagen conference. “We want to provide a methodology that is common in business, as both input and a basis for discussion before and after the Copenhagen conference,” said Lars G Josefsson. The evaluation tool – a scorecard – was developed during 2009 in a collaborative effort between 3C companies. It demonstrates, among other things, the anticipated effect various outcomes of the Copenhagen conference will have on the business community, its investment focus and behaviour. The scorecard is endorsed by the EU Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change, the °Climate Group and the Copenhagen Climate Council, which together represent more than a hundred companies worldwide. Endorsed by The EU Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change (EU CLG) was set up in 2006. It brings together business leaders from a cross-section of EU and international business who believe there is an urgent need to develop new and longer-term policies for tackling climate change. The Group has been brought together by the Prince of Wales and is managed by the University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership. The °Climate Group’s goal is to help government and business set the world economy on the path to a low-carbon, prosperous future. To reach this goal, The °Climate Group has created a coalition of governments and the world’s most influential businesses – all committed to tackling climate change. The Copenhagen Climate Council is a global collaboration between business and science founded by the leading independent think tank in Scandinavia, Monday Morning, based in Copenhagen. The members of the Copenhagen Climate Council have come together to create global awareness of the importance of the U.N. Climate Change Conference, COP15, in Copenhagen, in December 2009, and to ensure support and assistance to global decision-makers when agreeing on a new climate treaty.
