Comcast announces nearly 70 local projects and encourages public to get involved on April 27

SCHAUMBURG, IL – April 12, 2013 – Comcast Cares Day, the company’s signature day of service and the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort, will be held this year on Saturday, April 27. On that day, along with their counterparts around the nation, thousands of local Comcast and NBCUniversal employees and their families and friends will “make change happen” via participation in nearly 70 simultaneous community volunteer projects throughout central and northern Illinois, including the Chicago area, northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan.

“Comcast Cares Day is an incredible effort and reflects Comcast’s unwavering commitment to the communities we serve,” said John Crowley, Comcast’s regional senior vice president. “On Comcast Cares Day, literally thousands of Comcast employees and their friends and families will participate in hundreds of volunteer projects in their communities, ranging from cleaning up parks, painting schools, and putting together care packages for military personnel overseas, to giving blood.” (A complete list of all local projects following this news release.)

Last year, more than 7,000 local Comcast and NBCUniversal employees and their friends and family members participated in more than 60 projects across the region. This year, the company expects the number of volunteers to increase locally, as well as nationally. In fact, Comcast anticipates that more than 70,000 volunteers will participate in more than 600 projects nationally – and with the introduction of multiple project sites in London by NBCUniversal, Comcast Cares Day will include international projects for the first time. Comcast also expects to achieve another important milestone this year – a total of 3 million volunteer hours and participation by a half million volunteers since Comcast Cares Day began in 2001.
