Webinar covered new and emerging regulations to help medical professionals stay up-to-date amid industry changes

BUFFALO, NY (April 5, 2011) – Bryant & Stratton College Online announced today that the webinar from its recent medical administrative assistant tune-up clinic is now available for download at http://online.bryantstratton.edu/webinar/Bryant & Stratton College Online hosted the webinar for students, prospective students and medical administrative professionals.  The tune-up clinic helped people sort through the complex changes with HIPAA 5010 and ICD-10.  In the webinar, participants were able to ask about the modifications that are being made in the medical field.  For example, with HIPAA 5010 alone there are more than 1,000 modifications and ICD-10 has about five times more codes.

“What’s tricky about the medical profession is that updates and changes are constantly being made, making tune-up clinics like this one imperative,” said Amber Krasny, faculty member of Health Sciences at Bryant & Stratton College Online, who led the webinar.  “This forum provided a free opportunity for people to ask questions and learn about the latest changes and what those changes mean for them.”

Some of the topics and questions covered in the webinar included:

  • ICD-10
    • What does it mean?
    • What is the value?
    • Examples of what the change look like.

  • HIPAA 5010
    • What will change?
    • Who has to change?
    • Why does it matter?
    • Why are the changes happening?
  • Electronic Medical Records/Electronic Health Records/Personal Health Records
    • What are the benefits of electronic records?
    • Why should medical professionals change?

Krasny, who led the webinar, has worked at Bryant & Stratton College Online for nearly four years.  She has more than ten years of medical claims management and processing experience and is currently working on her doctorate in Healthcare Administration & Human Services with CPC and CMRS certifications.

“We had a great response to the tune-up clinic and although participation was significant, we heard from many others who wanted to attend but couldn’t make their schedule work,” said Scott Traylor, Associate Campus Director for Online Education at Bryant & Stratton College.  “To help accommodate everyone we have put the webinar online and we encourage all students and professionals of the medical administrative assistant field to take advantage of this information.”

Bryant & Stratton College Online is also hosting a series of three career webinars in April.  The free webinars are for anyone seeking information on how to get ahead in their career.  The first webinar will take place on Wednesday, April 6 and is called “Jumpstart Your Career While You’re in School.”  To register, visit http://online.bryantstratton.edu/webinar/.
