Vet Nurse Lisa celebrates as she wins new wheels at BVNA
For one astounded vet nurse, BVNA was made even more memorable this year as she walked away with a brand new Fiat 500 car, courtesy of Hill’s Pet Nutrition. Lisa Reading, RVN at The Veterinary Centre in Henley-on-Thames, couldn’t hide her astonishment when her name was called out as the grand prize winner of Hill’s Drive Nutrition Competition 2014 and she was ushered on stage to be awarded her prize.
“Did she really just win an actual car?!” was the resounding exclamation heard from awe-struck members of the crowd who had gathered for the announcement. Lisa was delighted to have already won an all-expenses-paid trip to the congress in Telford and was completely oblivious that she was also the lucky winner of the feisty Italian Fiat. The car’s funky fun loving ‘wrap’ design featuring some familiar furry friends meant that the car had been turning heads throughout the event as it took pride of place on the Hill’s stand - so when it came to the winner announcement, anticipation was rife. Thanks to Hill’s champagne reception, onlookers at the announcement were well prepared to toast Lisa as she made her way eagerly over to take a closer look at her new ride.
Excitedly sat in the driving seat (stationary of course!) while the cameras flashed and congratulations flowed, Lisa couldn’t wait to share her luck; “As soon as I stop shaking I’ll have to ring my partner, although he’s not going to believe me when I tell him - especially as I never win anything!”
Drive Nutrition encourages nurses to earn points by completing an assortment of fun online activities, with thousands of nurses across the UK and Ireland getting involved with everything from games and quizzes to trivia questions and mini competitions. This is all with the aim of emphasising the importance of nurses’ integral involvement in providing top-notch nutritional advice for every pet, in every consultation. Lisa believes that her regular activity may have helped her make her way up the leader board, “I absolutely loved playing all of the games online – especially with the cute animal mascots, so I actually ended up logging on way more regularly than I anticipated. It’s a great way to relax for five minutes at the end of the day - plus, I found the top tips and online tools really helpful in consults.”
Adrian Pratt, Director of the Veterinary Channel for Hill’s, was delighted to make the announcement and present Lisa with her new keys, “The Drive Nutrition competition is always about showing nurses how much they are appreciated for their hard work and dedication and it is so great to be able to give something back today. We couldn’t have hoped for a more lovely and deserving winner. Lisa, like all vet nurses, works so hard with a seemingly inexhaustible enthusiasm and we hope she gets a huge amount of enjoyment out of her new car – she certainly deserves it!”
The top award may have been won but there are still lots of great prizes up for grabs in this years’ competition which ends on the 26thof November. Plans for next year’s Drive Nutrition competition are also underway and Lisa is firmly decided that she’ll be taking part, “There’s literally no reason for any nurse not to enter – it’s really fun, you learn loads and there are so many prizes to win - not to mention the car.
