Componenta to supply components for wind turbine gears Componenta has signed a major contract with Metso Drives Oy for components for wind turbine gears. The contract is worth about EUR 10 million and the component deliveries will take place between 2002 and 2004. The castings for the components will be made at Componenta Suomivalimo in Iisalmi and they will be machined at Componenta Nisamo in Lempäälä. The first deliveries to Metso will take place early in 2002. Production of the components will be at full speed at Suomivalimo in April 2002 and at Nisamo in September 2002. Meeting the orders in accordance with the terms of the agreement will require investments to raise production capacity at both the foundry and the machine shop. The first stages of these investments will take place in 2002 and will cost about EUR 2.7 million. In contrast to most other industrial sectors, construction of wind turbine generators is growing strongly in Europe and the USA. Componenta has reinforced its expertise particularly in the production of components for power generation and wind turbine generators.
