Small fire at Componenta's foundry in Karkkila

A small fire broke out at 7.05 am on Tuesday morning, 6 September
2005, at the Componenta Karkkila foundry. The conveyor belts towards
the end of the moulding line caught fire, creating much smoke. The
fire units called to the scene quickly put out the fire. Personnel
were evacuated from the foundry as soon as the fire broke out.


Work in the other departments at the foundry has already started up
again. Decisions about the repairs needed on the moulding line and
when moulding can continue will be made once the extent of the
damage caused by the fire has been assessed. Investigations into the
cause of the fire have started. The fire did not cause any injuries
to personnel and it is estimated that material damage will be less
than EUR 100,000.
